McDonald's considering opening new restaurant in Bury St Edmunds

Fast food giant McDonald's has confirmed it is considering opening a new restaurant in Bury St Edmunds.

It follows speculation on social media that the company was planning to open a drive-through near the town's Tesco Superstore.

When asked about the rumours, a spokesman for McDonald's said: "Bury St Edmunds is one of a number of areas being considered in which to develop new restaurants and we continue to explore opportunities in the area."

They did not comment on a possible location in the town.

The company already has a restaurant in Cornhill.

In 2017, plans to build a McDonald’s within the Dragonfly Hotel site, in Symonds Road, were refused by St Edmundsbury Borough Council.

Proposals for a roadside service facility with a drive-through McDonald’s on vacant grassland off Newmarket Road next to junction 42 of the A14 were withdrawn last year.
