A nature writer, who teaches at a high school in Bury St Edmunds, will launch his latest book at Waterstones at the arc Shopping Centre.

The book mentions some of his favourite spots for weather-watching in Suffolk.

“We’re blessed with some beautiful locations in Suffolk to wander lonely as clouds, or just watch them,” said Matt who teaches at King Edward VI School.

“I would say that one of the most rewarding things I found about writing and researching this book was seeing how places I know really well, places often near my home, would be so transformed by weather.

“The sounds, the smell the entire atmosphere of somewhere can shift in just seconds.”

In the book Matt is accompanied by his Jack Russell Lyra and sometimes family and friends as he embarks on a series of weather-filled walks and swims - some of which are in his home county.

He said: “I've been surprised at how local weather is. I've loved finding spots where I know the fog will linger, or that place where the wind rattles through the coppices, despite it being a still day.

“I think the conversations I've had in Suffolk have been interesting too. It feels like the county - probably due to its agricultural heritage - is still tuned into the weather and the seasonal clocks.”

Matt has already had books published, including: The Pull of the River and Under the Stars: A Journey Into Light.

Though he admits it can sometimes be a struggle to fit in time to write, alongside his teaching role.

Speaking about his pupils, he said: “I'm sure some of them will have books of their own in the not-so-different future.

“We have some amazing young writers at school who I'm sure are destined for great things.”

The launch of In All Weathers takes place at Waterstones at the arc Shopping Centre in Bury St Edmunds tonight, Thursday, March 28.

Matt will be talking about the book, answering questions from the audience, and celebrating the book’s publication at the event, which will run from 7pm - 8.30pm.

In All Weathers : A Journey Through Rain, Fog, Wind, Ice and Everything In Between, has been published by Elliott & Thompson.

It is now available to buy priced at £16.99.
