Bury St Edmunds father-daughter duo clean up litter on Howard Estate
A father-daughter duo with a motto to help others are on a mission to clean up the streets of a town estate.
Karl Foley and his six-year-old daughter Mckenna-Rae, of Bury St Edmunds, started their litter-picking mission after walking past 'thousands' of plastic containers lining a walkway on the Howard Estate.
It was after two weeks of walking past the mess, that father and daughter decided to clean it up themselves one day after school.
Karl said: "We think they were sauce pots or sample pots and there was thousands of them all the way up the path. We kept saying, 'someone should pick these up.' And then we decided to do it.
"It wasn't very pleasant to be walking past it every day," he added.
Karl went on to say that a few people stopped to comment on Mckenna's good deed.
"We were there a little while cleaning it up. But we kept stopping to have a chat to people coming past.
"Lots of people said how much of a great job she'd done. And because of that people told us to put a post on Facebook.
"Everyone has been saying such kind things."
Mckenna added that she has inspired others.
She said: "Some people said they want to get a litter picker."
The duo spread kindness wherever they go and have a very special motto they say every day before Mckenna goes to school: '100 percent and a little bit more for my friends when they need help.'
It's this motto that sees father and daughter continue to do their bit for the community.
Karl said: "Every time we go out for our walks now, we make sure we've got a bag and the litter picker - that's part of what we do.
"We're going to continue doing little bits as and when we can."
To those thinking about purchasing their own litter pickers and bin bags, he adds: "There's no need to be ashamed, you're only cleaning up your community."
