Mildenhall Great Heath Academy pupils return to school with new look
Children celebrated a late term start with a new school uniform and a new school name.
Pupils at Great Heath Academy went back to school on Monday after flooding delayed the start of term.
And they arrived wearing the new school colours and a reworked school logo.
The former Great Heath Primary School is now run by the Academy Transformation Trust which also runs the town’s senior school, Mildenhall College Academy.
The Bank Holiday’s torrential rainfall however meant that the September 3 start of term was delayed after water soaked through the roof which was being replaced and brought down ceiling tiles.
School principal Steven VIncent said: “It looked like something out of a war zone. I’ve travelled a lot and seen monsoon rains but I’ve never seen anything like it.”
The school’s logo a Scott’s Pine was designed by chairman of the governors Lloyd Hughes and has been reworked for the new look uniforms which are in a bottle green with pupils sporting ties.
Mr Stevens said: “The most fundamentail benefit is working with the high school. About 99 per cent of our children will go on to the college academy and we are quite excited about this all through provision. With the nursery children can learn from three to 18. While we’re at separate schools we are all under the same trust.”
