‘Mindless damage’ wrecks Barrow park

More news, no ads

A children’s play area in Barrow has been destroyed in an arson attack.

A fire crew from Bury St Edmunds was called to the Ley Road park at 10.25pm on Tuesday.

Tom Wesley, chairman of the Village Hall Management Committee, said: “It is mindless damage and just beggars belief, why would you want to do that?”

The chairman said it could cost between £10,000 and £12,000 to fix and that the committee would meet soon to discuss the next steps.

The play area was opened four years ago, with a £50,000 revamp, after parents in the village secured funding for the project.

Witnesses to the incident should contact Suffolk Police on 101 quoting CAD 408 of April 9 or report it online, by going to www.suffolk.police.uk/contact-us/existing-report-update.
