More business expositions organised for students as part of Festival of Suffolk
Two more business expositions hoping to inspire the next generation have been arranged for students as part of the Festival of Suffolk celebrations.
The first expo will be held on June 17 as part of Suffolk One's Employability and Leadership Conference in Ipswich and focus on the Ports and Logistics Sector.
The event will offer students the chance to experience the day-to-day of working in the sectors through the use of virtual reality technology, a simulated experience that can be similar to or completely different from the real world, as well as tours through the ports and local facilities.
And on June 27, Jackson, a civil engineering company based in Ipswich, have organised a day of activities for students as part of their support for the Festival of Suffolk.
The Festival of Suffolk involves a number of events marking the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
The event on June 27 will be held at Gateway14, in Stowmarket, and the Jackson team will be demonstrating the types of careers available in the civil engineering and construction industries.
Guy Gibson, economic development officer at Suffolk County Council, said: "I have to admit that I am more than a little jealous of the students attending the Business Expo as part of The Festival of Suffolk.
"Like most of my peers I fell into a career that I had no idea existed.
"They will get a fabulous opportunity to see the shear breadth of roles open to them in Suffolk."
The aim of the expos is to inspire the next generation to look at employment opportunities in the county in a range of sectors, and understand the types of opportunities within each sector.
As well as these two expos, on June 22, at the University of Suffolk, a day on 'Education Beyond Teaching' will look at career opportunities in education.
On June 27, Willis Towers Watson is holding a day on financial solutions and on June 28 Vertas will be holding a day on sustainability at Endeavour House, in Ipswich.
Abbeycroft Leisure in Haverhill will be holding a day on health, fitness and well-being on July 1.
EDF is hosting several energy days between July 4 to 7.
As well as these, a technology day on June 21 will be led by BT.
They will be hosting a tour at their Martlesham site and there will be careers advice on industries such as coding, programming, designers, operational.
Suffolk County Council and Vertas are also involved.
Ian Surtees MBA FIoD, group chief executive officer, said: “We are really excited to be a supporting partner of the Festival of Suffolk for the upcoming Platinum Jubilee Celebrations.
"As the country marks this historic moment for the Queen, we are proud to be part of an event that brings together the local community.”
“To contribute to the programme of events, Vertas is hosting a sustainable solution day to inspire pupils to make the difference.
"Through fun activities and games, the day aims for pupils to feel connected to environmental topics and a great way to help them imagine a career within a workplace that takes sustainability seriously."
Ian added: "We have a fabulous range of fun and interactive activities planned to support the event which will take place in the inspiring venue, Endeavour House.
"By the end of the day the young people will understand that offering services to our customers in a sustainable manner is key to our future success.
"They will have had an opportunity to be creative and practical, learnt about recycling, sampled some unusual food and solved a puzzle to unlock the final surprise."
