St Edmundsbury Cathedral in Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds, will host student-focussed church service

Church schools in Suffolk are set to join together in a service based on the theme of ‘seeking wisdom, knowledge and truth’.

St Edmundsbury Cathedral in Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds, will host the annual Diocesan Education Service at 1.30pm on June 19. It will be open to all 87 church schools and 14,500 pupils in the dioceses of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich.

The event will see 120 children singing the Lord’s Prayer in Swahili – ‘Baba Yetu’ – and St Gregory Church of England Primary School in Sudbury performing John Rutter’s ‘For the Beauty of the Earth’.

The Rt Revd Dr Mike Harrison, Bishop of Dunwich and Chair of the Diocesan Board of Education, said of the event: “It’s wonderful to be able to come together with the schools we serve at the Cathedral in Bury St Edmunds.

“We look forward to celebrating the brilliant work being undertaken and giving thanks for all those who enable our schools to flourish.

“This year, our theme is ‘seeking wisdom, knowledge and truth’ and, given the complexities of navigating contemporary life as children and young people, it is a hugely relevant theme.”

Pupils from King Edward VI school in Bury St Edmunds and Debenham High School will be two of the schools taking part in the service – which the Bishop of Dunwich, the Dr Mike Harrison, will preside over.
