New A14 eastbound EG On The Move service station, between Elmswell and Woolpit, moves step closer with plans for new signage
A new service station off the A14 has moved a step closer after plans for new signage were submitted.
Mid Suffolk District Council validated the advertisement consent proposals from EG On The Move for its new forecourt off the A14 eastbound between Elmswell and Woolpit on Friday.
The proposals concern the construction of inside and outside illuminated signage.
SuffolkNews reported in August the services were due to open towards the end of October, however an EG On The Move spokesperson said this has had to be pushed back due to constraints with a power connection, which can only be completed in November.
The EG spokesperson added they expect the station to be open by the end of November.
Documents submitted with the application detail plans to set up a 12 metre multi-brand totem facing the A14.
There would also be a similar totem by its entrance off the A1088 which would display fuel prices.
The plans detail there would be a convenience store of some sort at the services, the brand of which has not yet been determined.
A panel would be attached to this store reading ‘Welcome to Elmswell Services’.
Woolpit Parish Council lodged its objection to the signage plans yesterday.
It said the 12 metre sign was ‘disproportionately large’ and too close to the road.
It added its belief the signs would be ‘ugly and intrusive’ in the ‘important view’ between the listed churches of Woolpit and Elmswell and suggested it would cause light pollution and annoyance to residents and risks to wildlife.
