New dog walking and exercise paddock could open in Fornham All Saints, near Bury St Edmunds

A new dog walking and exercise paddock could open in a village.

Mrs V Browne has submitted plans for the facility on land next to Mere Lane, in Fornham All Saints, near Bury St Edmunds.

A planning statement to West Suffolk Council said the applicants could currently use the 5.2 acre field as a dog walking site for up to 28 days as permitted development without planning permission but with no control over the number of dogs on the land.

However, they want to provide an identified all-year round facility.

It said the rural location was ideal for dogs and puppies requiring a safe and secure training area, especially those dogs who can be nervous or reactive in the company of other dogs.

“There are a limited number of safe places available where dogs can be released off the lead to exercise safely,” it said.

“The exclusive use of this paddock will give dog owners space and peace of mind knowing they have sole use of the facility during their allotted allocation.”

The boundary to the paddock will be fenced with a 1.8m high close boarded fence running alongside Mere Lane to avoid dogs being spooked by passing vehicles.

The remaining boundaries will be fenced with wire mesh fencing to keep dogs in and restrict other animals from entering.
