Bury St Edmunds County Upper School to welcome new headteacher Sally Kennedy

A new headteacher has been appointed to lead a Bury St Edmunds secondary school.

Sally Kennedy will start at County Upper, in Beeton's Way, in September, following the retirement of the school's long-term headteacher Vicky Neale.

Ms Kennedy, who teaches English, is currently associate headteacher at Walthamstow Girls School and was head of school at Crown Woods College, in Greenwich, and assistant head at Kingsford Community School, in Newham.

County Upper is part of the Unity Schools Partnership.

In a letter to parents, Ian Cox, chairman of the local governing body, and Tim Coulson, chief executive of Unity, said: "It will of course be a tough task to take over from Mrs Neale who has led the school with such distinction over the last 16 years and worked here for 29 years."

They said next term Mrs Neale will work with all of the sixth forms in the trust to share her expertise which will take her away from County but she will lead the leavers’ events for Years 11 and 13.
