Kings Arms pub in Bury St Edmunds town centre could be given a new look
A Bury St Edmunds town centre pub could be given a new look.
Greene King has sought advertisement and listed building consent for the changes to the Kings Arms, in Brentgovel Street.
The listed building consent application includes replacement signs with one projecting pictorial, one written house name, one door plaque, one brass lantern and one written coat of arms.
The outside of the building would also be repainted.
Concept images show the pub rebranded as The Kings Arms Tavern.
The Grade II listed building dates back to the 17th century, with alterations in the 19th century.
A design and access / heritage statement said the proposed signs were designed to complement the building and have a pleasing appearance.
Last month, Greene King submitted plans for other alterations at the pub.
The proposals included a full refurbishment of the toilets with a new floor, wall finishes, lighting and vanity units.
The garden area is set to be given a new lease of life.
The pergola would be redecorated with new festoon lighting and heaters and the seating retained and repaired.
The fixed seating opposite the pergola would be adapted to one long run rather than individual booths and fixed to a raised deck area.
A sail shade is proposed above the seating, which may need to be fixed to the building.
A metal perforated black sheet would be added to the entrance gates to hide bins from the street view.
A Greene King spokesperson said: “We have exciting plans to upgrade this pub by investing in the garden, restrooms and exterior.
“As well as giving the pub a fresh look, we are exploring tweaking its name whilst retaining its heritage.”
Meanwhile, the brewery is seeking permission to give The Macebearer, in Home Farm Lane, Bury, a makeover.
It follows an application for advertisement consent for new signage.
