Revamped play area opens for pupils at Bury St Edmunds school Tollgate Primary
A school’s youngest pupils are enjoying a revamped outdoor area.
The outdoor space used by reception pupils at Tollgate Primary School, in Bury St Edmunds, has been opened, as part of a programme of improvements to school facilities.
The reception class children started the year in two new purpose-built classrooms and their play space has now been completely revamped to support their outside learning.
Hannah Brookman, headteacher at the primary school, said: “It has been wonderful seeing the reception children step out of the classroom into a brand new space.
“They were so excited when they first saw it and it has made such a difference to both pupils and staff, further enhancing the children’s learning and development.”
The new outdoor space is part of plans transforming the primary school in Tollgate Lane as it prepares to welcome an increase of 60 pupils in September.
A new Year 6 teaching block and dedicated play areas for Key Stage 2, Key Stage 1 and reception classes are all part of the plans along with a new visitor car park designed to ease traffic along Tollgate Lane. Sports facilities will also be enhanced with a new MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) pitch.
Miss Brookman added: “It is an exciting time for the school and we are looking forward to opening our new teaching block in September as Tollgate grows to include Year 6 pupils.”
Tollgate Primary is part of Unity Schools Partnership.
