Mum inspired by son to develop Awe and Wonder classes for babies
The loving and gentle act of baby massage is something with physical and emotional benefits for mum and baby.
When Kimberley Goldsmith became mum to Oliver – who arrived five weeks early in 2015 – she soon realised its magical effects.
Now, the Bury St Edmunds mum has trained with the International Association of Infant Massage and is launching Awe and Wonder baby massage and sensory play classes next month.
But the sessions are not just about teaching massage skills, with Kimberley hoping they provide a safe space for mums to make friends and share experiences.
“Awe and Wonder classes are about empowering mums to be able to support their babies,” said Kimberley. “I want it to be a really supportive and nurturing group, with cake and a coffee machine and time to discuss those hot topics.
“I have been there, when you’re so anxious to go to a class and you feel quite alone, but other mums are feeling the same.”
Through her own experiences, Kimberley knows baby massage is also a good way for both parents to bond with their babies.
The last week of each massage course is devoted to sensory play to give babies a taste of Kimberley’s popular sensory classes, which have been updated for September.
“I am so excited and proud of the new classes,” she said. “Letting babies explore the world around us and experience things for the first time – touch and sound and natural encounters – is so important.”
Classes for babies eight weeks to walking start at Culford Village Hall on September 3, with play on Mondays and massage on Tuesdays. To book, email kimberley@awe-wonder.co.uk
