Bardwell Open Gardens event has town blossoming

More than 180 people gathered in Bardwell on Sunday to celebrate all things bright and beautiful at the town’s Open Gardens event.

The event, organised by the Friends of Bardwell Church community group, saw ten gardens open to the public, with some offering homemade cakes and scones to visitors.

Andrew Smith, chairman of Friends of Bardwell Church, said: “All in all, it was a really good day. It wasn’t the warmest but it didn’t rain which is the main thing.

“It was very interesting and we were lucky to get a whole range of visitors, from family outings to people who are really into gardening and particular plants.”

The event is one of four which will be held this year to raise funds to maintain the parish church and its grounds.

“We all had a great day and primary results suggest that it has been the best year we’ve had so far in terms of fundraising,” said Andrew.

“Everyone who came complimented the beautiful gardens and seemed to be really pleased with the day.”

Bardwell is also hosting its village fete on Saturday, which will feature a flypast of a vintage Douglas C-47 Dakota plane of the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. The fete will be held at the village playing field from 1pm until around 4pm.
