Festival of Suffolk organisers announce 100 free places at Bury St Edmunds' Community Games
Organisers of the Festival of Suffolk Community Games have announced 100 free places for general admission are available to Suffolk families allowing them attend and take part in a range of activities.
The event will take place at Abbeycroft Leisure Centre and King Edward VI School in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday, July 9 and will give participants the opportunity to try out a variety of sports such as BMX, dance, climbing, circus skills, paddleboarding and skateboarding, as well a traditional sports such as football and athletics which can be spectated on the day.
Attendees will also be able to see the special visit of the Queen's Baton Relay that has been travelling around all the commonwealth countries ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham next month.
James Payne, Senior Development Officer at Active Suffolk, said: "The Festival of Suffolk Community Games is set to be an incredibly fun day and Active Suffolk are excited to be playing a lead role in organising such a prestigious event.
"The event will allow children from across the county to try sports and activities that they may not ordinarily get the opportunity to do.
"We want the Suffolk Community Games to open new doors for young people and their families, whilst also encouraging them to find confidence, passion and enthusiasm for movement, physical activity, and sport in their everyday lives."
There is also a chance for the general public to access the Ipswich Town Football Club Fan Zone and watch a closing celebration put on by Dance East. Activities should be booked on the website.
Jason Curtis, head of community at the Ipswich Town Football Club Foundation, said: "Ipswich Town Football Club and The Ipswich Town Foundation are delighted to be part of the Suffolk Community Games as it continues our pursuit in engaging with as many children in Suffolk and the local area as possible.
"Having the opportunity to showcase our provision, encourage participation in sport and have a positive impact is a key aim of ours and hope this will in turn create more fans of the future for ITFC."
The Suffolk Community Games is part of a host of events which have been going on all throughout the county to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
