Joy as Lawshall missing dog Beau returns home after 20-mile adventure through Cockfield, Thorpe Morieux, Great Whelnetham and Preston St Mary
A devoted dog owner has spoken of her joy after her rottweiler, who had been missing for 25 days and was spotted in dozens of surrounding villages, returned home.
Tazmin-dee Hobbs, 22 of Southery in Norfolk, was staying with her partner in Lawshall, near Bury St Edmunds, on April 22 when five-year-old Beau bolted after becoming spooked by an Amazon delivery driver knocking on the door.
Beau then embarked on a 20-mile adventure and was spotted in various villages including Cockfield, Thorpe Morieux, Great Whelnetham and Preston St Mary, prompting a huge search and a Suffolk Police appeal.
“It was heartbreaking. Beau is like my child, I have had her since she was eight weeks old,” Tazmin said.
“She’s your typical princess, she is hand fed, she sleeps with a pillow and a blanket, she has a dressing gown that she will wear and she is very cuddly. It was just so out of character.”
Tazmin stayed at her partner Jake’s house for the majority of the search and spent hours trying to track Beau using cameras, food stations and traps with the help of FIDO (Finding Ipswich Dogs Organisation).
Cockfield-based AJ Laminations also pitched in by printing missing posters of Beau to leave in the surrounding villages.
Tazmin said she would panic when there were no updates and was especially worried for Beau, who is afraid of thunder, when a storm struck.
She said: “I always had hope but I did think the worst at times when I had no sightings for a few days.
“I was searching ditches just in case but then when I had sightings coming in every day I knew she was alive and fine – that kept me going.”
During the search, Tazmin’s nan sadly died and so she had to leave Lawshall and return to Norfolk. It was during this time that Beau found her way back to her partner’s home, and scratched on the front door to be let in.
“My partner facetimed me, turned the camera around, and there she was,” she said.
“I couldn’t believe it and I was just so happy. She was tired and hungry and she stank horrendously, but she was home.”
Tazmin has thanked AJ Lamination in Cockfield and FIDO (Finding Ipswich Dogs Organisation) for their help with the appeal.
