Flying Fortress park, in Bury St Edmunds, closed for urgent repairs after swings vandlised

A town’s play area has been closed for urgent repairs after a set of swings were vandalised.

A spokesperson for West Suffolk Council confirmed that the ropes on the high swings at Flying Fortress park, off Lady Miriam Way on the Moreton Hall estate in Bury St Edmunds, had been cut.

While the high swings remain out of use, the rest of the park is expected to reopen later today.

The park, which first opened in 2016, previously drew attention when concerns were raised over its unfinished £20,000 refurbishment after the popular play area became run down and neglected.

Although work began last June and was scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer, the project faced delays due to ‘repeated vandalism’ and poor weather.
