Bury St Edmunds Soapbox Challenge invites people to ‘get creative’ to help raise money for West Suffolk Hospital

Businesses and organisations are being invited to ‘get creative’ and build a soapbox vehicle.

This year's My WiSH Soapbox Challenge will take place on Saturday, August 31.

The annual event raises money for the My Wish charity, which supports the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.

Last year the Soapbox Challenge raised almost £24,000 which will be used to provide a family counsellor to support those whose loved ones are undergoing treatment.

My Wish is calling for local businesses and organisations to ‘get creative’ and build a soapbox to race down Mount Road, in Bury St Edmunds.

Event organiser and fundraising manager, Sally Daniels, said: “Last year was such a fun day.

“Once again our teams outdid themselves by creating the most fabulous soap boxes. We had everything from a Meccano style soap box to a Mario brothers kart, Scooby Doo's Mystery Machine to a giant toolbox.”

This year the event is sponsored by ingredients manufacturer, Treatt.

Sally added: “As always we have to thank Treatt who have been our headline sponsors for every soap box. Their support has been unwavering and we look forward to welcoming Chloe Ludkin back to help us judge once again.”

Chloe Ludkin, Treatt’s internal communications executive, said: “I have been lucky enough to be a judge for a couple of the soapbox challenges.

“You can see just how much work goes into putting on this great event. Treatt are thrilled to be able to sponsor the day once again and bring smiles to the community as well as help local businesses promote themselves. It’s just a great day to be involved with.”

Other sponsors include Clarkes of Walsham, AC Webb Electrical, Speedy Hire, Enterprise Rent A Car and Sealey's Tools.

The Priory School is once again allowing the charity to use the school grounds to host Soapbox City.

Here everyone will be able to see the teams and their soapboxes up close and there will be food and drinks available.

Sally Daniels added: “Our Soapbox Challenge is a great day for families to have a fun day before the summer ends and we can't wait to see what this year brings."
