West Suffolk Council planners approve tennis courts proposal at All Saints resort in Fonham St Genevieve, near Bury St Edmunds
A health club near Bury St Edmunds will be serving more sporting opportunities after proposals for new tennis courts were approved.
Planners from West Suffolk Council have decided that All Saints Resort, in Fornham St Genevieve, can build three new courts near its recently approved car park.
The original plans, submitted by M&D Developments in April 2024, were for two tennis and two pickleball courts on part of the existing golf course.
Following concerns, these were later amended to a bid for three tennis courts.
Over the course of the application five neighbours submitted objections, raising concerns including the noise impact, proposed landscaping, the size of the courts and proximity to their homes.
The applicant agreed no lighting would be installed and the courts would not be used for competitions, while they would only operate during daytime hours.
Meanwhile, the 54-metre by 34-metre development will also include an acoustic fence along two sides.
A delegated report by planners, recommending approval, said: “While officers note the objections received from neighbours, with the proposed conditions to control the operation of the courts alongside the addition of the acoustic fence, it is not considered the courts will create a level of noise to result in an adverse impact to amenity.”
Planners approved the scheme under delegated powers.
