Barrow Hill development plans of 165-homes, 80-bed care home and business space in Barrow, near Bury St Edmunds, submitted to West Suffolk Council
Plans for a development of 165 homes, an 80-bed care home and a commercial area in a village have been submitted.
Ceres Property has applied to West Suffolk Council for the project on land either side of Barrow Hill, in Barrow, near Bury St Edmunds.
Alongside the homes – of which 30 per cent would be affordable – and business space, the plans detail children’s play areas, a community orchard, attenuation basin, greenspace and associated infrastructure.
The business area would be made up of four individual office buildings across an area of just under 1,400sqm. A planning statement said it would be for small businesses, start-ups and remote workers.
The care home would share accesss with two of the offices. It would be a ‘modern facility’ with dementia-friendly features and en suite wet rooms for each bedroom, according to the statement.
There would be three priority junctions into the site either side of Barrow Hill, while there would also be a network of pathways and cycle routes.
A design and access statement said the homes in the development will be designed to be in keeping with the existing style of the village.
Each home would have enough parking spaces to serve them adequately, the statement said. Visitors will use on-street parking.
The development site is primarily farmland and there are several existing buildings on the land which would need to be demolished to make way for the development.
The design and access statement said there would be 17 self-build opportunities in the northern half project for residents to design their own homes.
The care home would be on the allocated area of employment land in the project, which would be directly next to Barrow Hill.
Of the market properties, there would be three two-bedroom bungalows, 53 three-bedroom houses, 40 four-bedroom houses and two five-bedroom houses.
The affordable homes would comprise eight one-bedroom apartments, five two-bedroom bungalows, 12 two-bedroom houses, 21 three-bedroom houses and four four-bedroom houses.
