Plans submitted to turns site at Camping Caravanning Suffolk in Lawshall near Bury St Edmunds from arable land to recreational

A campsite in Suffolk is set to provide seven electric pitches after plans were submitted to change the use of arable land to recreational.

Camping Caravanning Suffolk, a small holiday site at Coopers Farm in Lawshall, near Bury St Edmunds, will diversify its farm if permission is granted by Babergh District Council.

The owners of the site want to bring extra income to their business and provide guests with a safe and quiet farm stay as well as promote local businesses and places to visit.

They are seeking permission to change the use of arable land to recreational and provide seven electric pitches, with six on a larger field and one on a smaller field to accommodate people with dogs.

The site is on the south side of Lambs Lane and caters for adults only, with the seven available pitches suitable for campervans and caravans on a short-term basis.

A planning statement from Ray Debenham said: “The idea came to us a few years ago thinking about farm diversification to bring extra income to the business and at the same time providing a safe place to stay for people passing on their holidays through beautiful Suffolk and to be able to enjoy the countryside and local tourist amenities in our area.

"Presently we are in the situation that we have been able to supply our field with six hookups for electric and a water supply and after having trialled a little bit in the last summer we are now confident that this year we should apply for planning to change the use of the arable field here south of Lambs Lane."
