SuffolkNews Podcast: Sudbury and Halstead Town Councils call for talks over traffic congestion and HGVs clogging up town centres




On today's podcast, we have news that calls have been made for top-level talks to finally bring an end to traffic congestion in two town centres.

In a bid to put pressure on Suffolk County Council and Essex County Council, Sudbury Town Council and Halstead Town Council have teamed to end what they call 'years of traffic misery'.

They say both town centres suffer gridlock at peak times as a result of the current strategic lorry route, which diverts HGVs and general traffic through the two towns.

A bank’s plan to close its branches in Newmarket and Mildenhall has been greeted with anger and disappointment by both customers and town representatives who said it was a fresh blow to the towns’ already struggling high streets.

Barclays has informed its customers that both branches will shut on June 9 as part of its latest round of closures.

A high street restaurant is set to close after 40 years with plans submitted to turn it back into a home.

Theobald's Restaurant, in Ixworth High Street, near Bury St Edmunds, is to be turned back into a residential dwelling if permission is granted by West Suffolk Council.
