SuffolkNews Podcast: Bury St Edmunds plans for a new McDonald's and coffee shop at Suffolk Business Park near A14

In today's podcast, we have news that multi-million pound plans have been submitted for a new McDonald's and coffee shop in Bury St Edmunds which will create over 130 new jobs.

The Churchmanor Estates Company submitted the application in the first phase of the leisure quarter on the 57-acre Suffolk Business Park, next to junction 45 of the A14.

The £6million development would be home to a drive through McDonald’s and icon brand coffee operator creating about 135 new full-time and part-time jobs.

The plans were submitted earlier this month.

Next, a former teacher and youth theatre champion, described as a 'bundle of energy', has died aged 91.

Daphne Dyer, who died last Friday, was a former head of year and head of PE at Hardwick Middle School in Bury St Edmunds and had always been involved in youth drama and activity.

Her daughter Laura Dyer said her mother will have 'touched an enormous number of young people's lives' through her years as a teacher and supporting Suffolk Young People's Theatre (SYPT).

Ian Shipley Chair of Trustees at SYPT said there will be a tribute to Daphne in their performance later this year.

Also, the battle over contentious plans for a gas-fired power plant in Sudbury has cropped up once again after the developer formally appealed against their refusal.

Balance Power Projects Ltd lodged an appeal earlier this month with the Planning Inspectorate in a fresh attempt to gain permission for its planning application to build a standby energy generation facility in the town.

The application was rejected last August by Babergh District Council’s planning committee by the narrow margin of six votes to five – going against the planning officer’s earlier approval recommendation.

Finally, a bar and restaurant chain has revealed its long-awaited opening date for its Ipswich premises, almost a year after plans were first announced.

The Botanist, which serves food and cocktails, will be opening the Old Post Office building in the Cornhill on May 3.

Plans had been confirmed in April last year and planning permission was granted in June.

A celebratory competition has been launched offering the chance to win a three-course-meal for two and an exclusive preview of the restaurant before it officially opens.
