Police and fire service deal with collision at Greene King brewery in Bury St Edmunds involving lorry carrying liquid CO2




Police and the fire service were called to Greene King brewery in Bury St Edmunds after a lorry carrying liquid CO2 collided with a gate.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the incident, in Crown Street, at 8.54am after a small rupture from the inlet pipe of the vehicle was discovered.

Police closed Churchgate Street, Westgate Street and Crown Street.

A Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "The incident was quickly resolved with the liquid CO2 being syphoned off into bulk storage tanks on site.

"The road was closed during the incident but has now reopened and there is no immediate threat to the public."

The incident was dealt with by 9.42am.

A spokesman for Greene King said: "The fire brigade were called as a precaution to a small incident at the brewery yard this morning after the pipework on an external CO2 delivery vehicle became dislodged creating a minor leak.

"The incident was confined to brewery property and was resolved swiftly. There is no risk to our team or to local residents.

"We apologise for the inconvenience to local residents and thank them for their understanding."
