Police competition helps Norfolk pupils understand internet safety

Staying safe online is the focus of a new competition being launched in primary schools across Norfolk next month.

Norfolk Police, in partnership with the ChildLine Schools Service, will be running an Internet Safety Campaign in February in which year six pupils in all the county’s 300 schools are being invited to design a poster about staying safe on the internet.

Each school will be asked to pick a winning poster, which will then be put before a panel of judges with representatives from Norfolk Police and ChildLine.

The overall winning poster will be displayed in every primary school in Norfolk, and its designer will receive an iPad.

Inspector Rebecca Brown from Norfolk Police, who is leading the project, said: “We want to ensure that children of today are mindful about keeping safe online. Technology is growing and there are so many ways in which children can now access the internet.

“We realise that many children will rely more and more on technology as they grow up but we want to ensure that they know how to protect themselves from some of the dangers out there on the World Wide Web from an early age.

“This is a great opportunity for schools to help educate pupils about the dangers of the internet in a fun and informative way.”
