As yet, no one has reported being a victim of an offence linked to the incident and officers have not been able to identify either of the parties involved.

Further police inquiries, including searches in the vicinity of Mount Road, will be undertaken as officers are keen to establish exactly what took place last night.

The only description of the woman is that she appeared to have light-coloured long hair.

Detective Inspector Cat Thompson, of West CID at Bury St Edmunds, said: “We do not want to cause any undue alarm in the local community, but it is important for us to establish the facts of what took place in Moreton Hall last night.

“It could be we have a situation where there is a victim of crime who has not yet contacted us, or alternatively this may all be a misunderstanding and no offence has occurred.

“I would urge either of the persons involved, or any other potential witnesses, to contact us as soon as possible.”

Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of Mount Road between 9.30pm and 10pm yesterday and believes they saw anything who may help with police inquiries to come forward.

They are asking anyone who was driving in the area with a dashcam in their vehicle to review the footage for anything which may be of assistance.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information about these incidents, is asked to contact West CID at Bury St Edmunds Police Station, quoting reference 37/25463/25.
