Police vow to bring Bury sex attack suspect who fled country back to UK

Detectives investigating a serious sexual assault in Bury St Edmunds say a suspect they have identified left the country the following day.

In the attack, between 4am and 4.15am on June 3, a 25-year-old woman walking back from the town centre along Cullum Road, she was pushed into bushes near a stream and sexually assaulted.

She screamed out for help and members of the public came to her assistance so the offender ran away.

As a result of inquiries, including forensic and CCTV work, a suspect was been identified but had left the United Kingdom.

But Suffolk Police say efforts will continue to bring him to justice.

Detective Chief Inspector Barry Byford, the senior investigating officer, said: "We have made excellent progress in this investigation and are grateful to all the members of the public who have assisted us with our enquiries.

"We are now working to bring him back to the United Kingdom and we are determined to achieve justice for the victim.”
