Hundreds of excited football fans queued to snap picture with Premier League trophy, at Starlings Toys, in Bury St Edmunds

Hundreds of excited football fans eagerly queued this morning to snap a picture with the Premier League trophy.

The trophy visited Starlings Toys, at the Bury St Edmunds’ arc Shopping Centre, as part of its country-wide tour, which kicked off about six weeks ago.

The queue stretched all the way to Primark’s front doors, and despite a slight delay, the first fans were snapping pictures with the iconic trophy shortly after 10am.

Behind them were Lorraine Stanley, of Ixworth, and her 11-year-old son, Jasper, who is cheering on Liverpool Football Club this season.

Jasper, who was excited to see the trophy in person, said: “I think it’s a very rare moment because that’s the closest we will get in a longtime.

“Unfortunately, I did see that Ipswich Town was losing a lot, but they have done really good in the Championship, so I think they deserve to be in the Premier League.”

The Premier League season kicked off in August, and the trophy is set to be lifted by the winning team in May.

Since the league began in 1992, seven different football clubs have lifted the trophy, including Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Ipswich Town secured promotion back to the Premier League after a 22-year absence by beating Huddersfield Town back in May of this year.

The trophy was in the town until about midday and is set to travel to Cambridge this afternoon. It visited fans in Ipswich yesterday.

John Cochrane, Premier League trophy ambassador, said: “Everywhere we take it is received unbelievably well.

“To get the chance to see the trophy up close and personal is a big deal.

“This is a way to give back to the fans, allowing them to come and see it and get a picture with it.

“This tour is always well received. As soon as the trophy goes on display, we have a queue until we take it off display.”

The trophy tour will finish next week in Dublin.
