Brandon properties evacuated and Thetford Road closed after gas leak




Properties were evacuated and a road closed in a Suffolk town due to a gas leak after a construction digger damaged a service main.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at about 9.58am in Thetford Road, Brandon.

A Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said a construction digger had cut through a gas main outside a house.

Four fire crews attended as well as the police and the road was closed.

The fire service spokesman said nearby properties were evacuated while other residents were asked to stay indoors.

Engineers from Cadent were working to fix the damaged main.

The fire service had left the scene by 11.59am.
