The Fox Inn on edge of Bury St Edmunds town centre set for spruce up as alterations planned
A pub on the edge of Bury St Edmunds town centre could be set for a series of alterations.
Greene King has submitted plans to spruce up The Fox Inn, in Eastgate Street, and invest in the fabric of the building to ‘guarantee its continued commercial viability’.
It has sought listed building and planning consent from West Suffolk Council for changes including the installation and replacement of wall lights, new timber posts and festoon lighting as well as new fence and gates, new hardstandings and outside repairs and decorations.
There would be new wall panelling and alterations to the bar servery.
The Grade II listed 15th century inn was formerly a merchant’s house.
A planning, heritage, design and access statement said the proposed alterations were modest and restricted to what is required to improve the function and appearance of the pub.
“The finished appearance will improve the historic and architectural value of the building whilst supporting its beneficial use as a public house,” it said.
“The external works proposed will smarten up the building and its curtilage to the benefit of the setting of the listed building and surrounding area.”
