Registration opens for Bury St Edmunds Girls Night Out fund-raiser in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care
Registration for St Nicholas Hospice Care’s biggest annual fund-raiser event is now open to raise much-needed funds for the charity.
The hospice's Girls Night Out event on September 10, sees women don flashing bunny ears and pyjamas and walking several miles around Bury St Edmunds.
Participants have helped to raise over £1million for St Nicholas Hospice Care since the first event in 2009 to support those facing dying, grief and caring in Thetford and West Suffolk.
Women who take part can either walk 11.2 miles or the slightly shorter walk of six miles.
Organisers are hoping that the event, supported by main sponsor Jaynic, will be go ahead as normal this year after the pandemic caused changes and challenges to the 2020 and 2021 events.
Charlie De-Moore, the hospice’s events manager, said: “This year more than ever, we need our community to walk with us and help to raise the funds needed to support the work the hospice does across the area.
“The last two years have been challenging for the charity. The pandemic has made fundraising more difficult, and we’ve also seen the demand for our services grow.
“We need to raise more than £12,000 each day from the community to support the running of hospice services, so we really need as many walkers as possible to pull on their flashing bunny ears and raise funds for us.”
Memory boards of pictures and messages will be placed on Angel Hill and at the hospice in Hardwick Lane to allow walkers to remember their loved ones. There will also be a memory minute silence before walkers set off on Angel Hill at 8pm.
Nicola Barber, Jaynic’s office and marketing manager, said: “We are really looking forward to the third Jaynic’s Girls Night Out, and we really hope that as many people as possible to pull on their pyjamas and comfiest trainers and sign up for the walk.”
Walkers should try to aim to raise £100 and the charity are also looking for volunteers to help out.
