RAF Mildenhall brings special athletes together

The 37th Joan Mann Special Sports Day took place on Saturday.

The event, which was hosted at RAF Mildenhall was arranged to provide an opportunity for disabled children to experience the rewards of friendly competition.

Monica Luna, technical sergeant said: "It was absolutely fantastic, it was very successful."

Events included, bowling, putt-putt golf, 50-yard dash, wheelchair Slalom, 100-yard run, obstacle course, American Football kick/throw and basketball toss.

Around 150 special-needs athletes travelled from all over the country to participate in the annual event.

Sgt Luna, said: "The biggest reason of the games is that we are happy to be giving back to the local community."

More than 600 volunteers and members of the air force from RAF Mildenhall, RAF Lakenheath and RAF Feltwell made the event possible.
