East of England healthcare champions nominated in 2024 NHS Parliamentary Awards
NHS England has announced the 10 healthcare initiatives in the East of England that have been nominated for national recognition in the 2024 NHS Parliamentary Awards.
First established in 2018 to mark the NHS’s 70th anniversary, the awards celebrate the remarkable contributions of staff, volunteers and others in the health and care sector.
One of the nominees is Helen Jackson, a perinatal nurse specialist at Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust who is being recognised for her work caring for people with trauma at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.
Helen previously won the Hughes Award in the University of Suffolk Purple Hearts Trauma Informed Practice Awards in March.
Clare Panniker, regional director for the NHS in the East of England said: “Our 10 regional champions represent the very best of what the NHS does across so many areas of healthcare, from teams looking after people with mental health problems in Basildon, to many years of outstanding voluntary work as a community first responder for the East of England Ambulance Service.
“I would like to congratulate our healthcare champions, thank them and their organisations for the excellent work they have done for patients in the East of England, and wish them good luck in next month’s national awards.”
Another regional champion is University of Suffolk community interest company (CIC) which has helped to provide dental services in Suffolk and North East Essex.
After the initial stage of the competition where MPs nominated healthcare teams and individuals from their local areas, NHS England regions selected one regional champion in each category to advance to the national shortlist round.
A panel of national judges, made up of figures from across the healthcare sector, will now review the nominees to choose the winners for this year’s awards.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Monday, October 14, in London where healthcare leaders, finalists, and MPs will gather to celebrate the significant contributions made by healthcare staff to the NHS.
