Bury St Edmunds Nostalgia - 5,000 strong parade of British Legion members march through Abbey Gardens

In today's nostalgia we go back to 1952 when a 40-minute long procession of ex-serviceman and women marched in the Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds.

The 5,000 strong parade of British Legion members, some who could hark back to Queen Victoria's day, marched by Field Marshal Lord Wilson of Libya and Stowlantoft for the Suffolk County annual rally.

The day's programme began with men and women placing wreaths on the Borough War Memorial on Angel Hill.

There were 10 bands from 140 standards from men's branches, and 56 from women's sections were in the parade through the town to the Abbey Gardens.
