Nostalgia - Haverhill Echo helps disabled man after his talking apparatus breaks

In today's nostalgia we go back to 2012 when a disabled man was going to be able to talk again.

The previous week’s Haverhill Echo told how Robin Kilpatrick, 35, from Horace Eves sheltered accommodation in Withersfield Road, Haverhill, was desperate to raise £10,000 so he could talk again.

Robin, pictured by then Echo photographer, Helen Whitcombe, had used a talk-board – like the one used by Prof Stephen Hawking – until five months earlier when it broke, and as the warranty had expired and the parts were old he could not get it repaired.

After the story appeared, social services came up with a new communication board for Robin to trial.
