Thetford Nostalgia - Frank Bruno and Gladiator's Ace visit pupils for Sports Experience Day at Waterworld
In today's nostalgia we go back to 1997 when children from special education schools in the region got to meet former world champion boxer Frank Bruno and the Gladiator, Ace, at a charity sporting event.
Nearly 400 youngsters at the Sports Experience Day, organised by the Presidents Sporting Club (PSC) were able to try their hand at a wide range of sporting activities from horse riding to archery at Breckland Leisure Centre’s Waterworld in Thetford.
Carol Garrett, of the PSC, said: “Taking part in sport increases the children’s self confidence, physical development and self esteem and helps them to meet challenges they may face later in life.”
The PSC, based in Harlow, of which Frank Bruno was president, had raised more then £400,000 which was donated to schools and organisations to provide sporting facilities and opportunities for disabled children.
