Bury St Edmunds traffic ‘chaos’ as removal lorries park on double yellow lines on Tayfen Road





Two removal lorries parked illegally brought a town to a standstill this morning causing the delays of up to 45 minutes.

Police were called to the incident at 9.10am this morning after a member of the public reported the lorries parked on double yellow lines on Tayfen Road, Bury St Edmunds.

Traffic jams were reported by AA Route planner stretching back along Station Hill and as far as St Saviours Interchange – due to the obstruction.

However motorists reported being caught in tailbacks along Compeigne Way.and as far back as the A143 before Orttewell Road.

Two police cars attended Tayfen Road at 9.25am and ordered the drivers of the lorries to move on.

A spokesperson for Suffolk Police said: “A member of the public called in and said the removal lorries were causing chaos.

“It was also an unfortunate time of day and caused massive tailbacks.”

It is understood the congestion has now cleared.
