Repairs to potholes in School Road, Elmswell, near Bury St Edmunds, to start today
Repairs to a series of ‘dangerous’ potholes in a village road are due to start today.
Suffolk Highways will start work in School Road, Elmswell, near Bury St Edmunds.
The holes currently have cones in them due to heavy rain obscuring them from drivers’ vision last week.
The craters are opposite the village’s Co-op and near a bus stop.
A spokesperson for Suffolk Highways said: “Our teams will be attending School Road, Elmswell, on April 12 to make a defect safe; however, due to road space availability and traffic management requirements, additional repairs will be completed on April 17.”
There have been 10 complaints about the potholes on the Suffolk Highways pothole reporting tool.
One report said it ‘looks like a part of a failed trench’ and another said ‘this is a danger to cars and people, especially outside a bus stop’.
A separate report remarket ‘this is getting dangerous now’.
Other submissions described the potholes as being seven inches deep and two feet wide, with the damage extending over 10 feet.
