Bury St Edmunds resident praises West Suffolk Council's Love Where You Live scheme

One Bury St Edmunds resident has been praising the council's litter picking scheme set up to encourage people to do their bit in their community.

The resident, who wishes not to be named, decided to sign up to West Suffolk Council's Love Where You Live scheme after walking past litter around the town and being inspired by another lady who was out cleaning up rubbish.

The scheme encourages people to volunteer and provides cleaning supplies and guidance to help volunteers carry out the job safely.

Volunteers can sign up online and a litter picker, high visibility vest and refuse bag for recycled and non recycled materials will be sent to their door.

The resident who lives near the West Suffolk College area said: "Rubbish is everywhere. I've never seen so much rubbish in my life.

"I will be doing it every couple of weeks but I would like to do discretely.

"It's such a nice way of doing your bit for the community and makes you aware of the rubbish that we use," she added.
