The Suffolk restaurants and takeaways handed one or zero food hygiene ratings in the last three months
When choosing a restaurant or picking a takeaway, you probably want to know if you are in safe hands in terms of quality and hygiene.
The Food Standards Agency works with local authorities to enforce food safety rules and award star-ratings to businesses, giving residents an indication of the cleanliness and hygiene.
Here's a list of the Suffolk eateries handed a one or zero star rating after inspections since mid-August.
1. The Lady Elizabeth - Sudbury
This hotel and bar in Sudbury's Market Hill was handed a zero-star food hygiene rating following an inspection on October 20.
The eatery serves 'home cooked pub food' including steaks, burgers, fish and chips and Sunday roast.
It has an average of 3.5 stars on Tripadvisor.
2. The Lion - Stoke By Clare
The Lion in The Street, Stoke By Clare, was handed a zero-star rating by food hygiene inspectors who visited on August 23.
The pub was deemed to need major improvement in hygienic food handling, while inspectors said it needed urgent improvement in management of food safety and the cleanliness of facilities.
It offers snacks and meals, ranging from soups to fish to lasagne, and has a four-star average on Tripadvisor.
3. Golden Castle - Lowestoft
Golden Castle in Lowestoft High Street was handed a zero-star food hygiene rating on September 29.
The restaurant, which serves an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet, was found to require major improvement in all three categories including management of food safety, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building and hygienic food handling.
The eatery has three stars on Tripadvisor.
4. Bramford Fish Bar and Chinese
This Ipswich eatery was rated one-star for its food safety after an inspection on September 16.
The hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities and building were found to be generally satisfactory.
But inspectors deemed the management of food safety at the restaurant to need major improvement. It has four stars on Tripadvisor.
5. A B's Mini Market - Haverhill
This store in Haverhill's Queensway was rated one-star when it was inspected on September 21.
Inspectors said major improvement was necessary in the management of food safety, while improvement was needed in the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building.
They deemed the hygienic food handling to be generally satisfactory.
6. BBQ House Restaurant - Lowestoft
This London Road South takeaway serves everything from kebabs to pizza and burgers.
It was handed a one-star rating by inspectors on September 14, when it was deemed to need major improvement in the leanliness and condition of facilities and building.
Improvement was also found to be needed in hygienic food handling, while the management of food safety was generally satisfactory.
7. Costcutter Supermarket - Rendlesham
This supermarket was rate one-star after an inspection on August 16.
While inspectors found the hygienic food handling to be good, and the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building to be generally satisfactory, they highlighted major improvements needed in the management of food safety.
The management of food safety includes checks and systems in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat.
8. Lounge India - Lowestoft
This Indian restaurant was given a one-star rating on October 25.
Inspectors highlighted improvements needed in the hygienic food handling and cleanliness categories, but major improvement in the management of food safety category.
Lounge India has 4.5 stars on Tripadvisor.
