REVIEW: Lee Mead charms and delights audience members in Bury St Edmunds

Singer Lee Mead charmed the socks off a near sell-out crowd at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday.

Dressed to the nines in a blue suit and red tie, Lee looked the part of one of the gentlemen whose songs featured in his new Some Enchanted Evening tour.

He seemed relaxed on stage, even gave a few cheesy dance moves, and connected well with the audience, providing snippets of personal details during song introductions.

The show consisted mostly of 1940s and 50s numbers like I Fall in Love Too Easily and Luck Be a Lady, but contemporary songs like John Legend’s All of Me also featured in addition to performances by Lee’s special guest, his Casualty co-star Amanda Henderson, who gave a spellbinding rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Lee brought the night to a close with Any Dream Will Do, a song from the show/musical which shot him to fame in 2007 and a popular choice with the very enthusiastic crowd who made no secret of wanting him back as soon as possible.

One thing is certain, if Saturday’s audience is anything to go by, Lee’s new album - scheduled for a Mother’s Day release - is going to be well received.
