We visited BeWILDerwood at the Norfolk Broads for a fun-packed and energetic day out in the woods

An active, family day out in the woods with very little phone signal – our trip to BeWILDerwood in Norfolk gave us the chance to connect.

Even for the adults in the group – myself and my husband - the trip was a lot of fun: it saw the pair of us squeeze through tunnels, whiz along zip lines and plunge down drop slides.

I mean, age is only a number right?

BeWILDerwood is an award-winning story and adventure park, with a site on the Norfolk Broads at Hoveton – the one we visited – and one in Cheshire.

Based on the book, A Boggle at BeWILDerwood, by Tom Blofeld, the two parks promise an enchanting world of adventure as visitors follow in the footsteps of the main characters.

The woodland parks are filled with zip lines, slides, mazes, giant treehouses, storytelling shows, crafts and more.

BeWILDerwood had been on our radar for a while, so we were excited to visit on Sunday for the first time.

My eldest daughter is eight so I was a little apprehensive about whether she would find the characters – Twiggles, Boggles and others – a little ‘babyish’, but, even if she wasn’t fully into the theme, she loved the adventureland.

My six year old, however, was captivated by the characters and was engaged in ticking off things to find on a checklist.

The site ensured a lovely walk through the woods, with lots of activities to get stuck into, and even a boat ride. Other than a short wait for the boat, we didn’t have to queue for anything.

The Sky Maze, Wobbly Wires (zip lines) and Slippery Slopes (slides) were our favourites. There were elements that challenged, and our daughters relished the sense of achievement.

We took a picnic, but there are two cafes at different ends of the site with a variety of options. There are also toilets spread out across the park – always handy with little ones.

Being kids together, pushing ourselves and just being outside in a wonderful natural setting really made it a top trip for us.
