Young athletes from Bury St Edmunds take silver at tchoukball competition in Geneva
A team of young athletes from Bury St Edmunds finished second at an international sports competition.
Thirty-three players from Bury went to Geneva to be among 50 players representing the UK in the tchoukball competition on December 9 and 10.
Tchoukball, developed in Switzerland, is an indoor team sport most popular in Singapore, Switzerland and Taiwan.
Bury Kings are the current national champions and have a large youth set up catering for all ages and abilities.
Coach Ian Parker said: “This was the second time we’ve entered the Geneva Indoors competition. It’s amazing to give kids the opportunity to face sides from as far away as Hong Kong and the Reunion Islands.
“One of the highlights is when players decide to swap shirts with players from other countries at the end of a tournament.
“Our Bury players did amazingly and for some of our players to come back with a silver medal was brilliant.
“They got to run out through the smoke to a full stadium, with their families watching on. They did so well and were so close to winning, but to even get on the podium out of that many teams was a huge achievement.”
The club is open to new players, particularly those aged 8-12.
Sessions take place at South Lee Sports Hall in Bury.
