Primary school scoops art accolade




A primary school in Barrow has been presented with a special arts award.

Barrow Primary School, in Colethorpe Lane, is the winner of the Silver Artsmark accolade.

Helen Ashe, headteacher, said: “This is the culmination of two years hard work promoting the arts and reshaping the curriculum in order to meet ‘the cultural challenge’ for every child.

“The Arts Council particularly praised the opportunities for pupils to experience live theatre and engage with local institutions such as the Theatre Royal.

“The range of extra-curricular activities was also applauded. They also gave their approval of the new Cornerstones curriculum and its emphasis on arts subjects leading learning. We look forward to developing the role of children as young leaders as we grow the school to include Years 5 and 6 in the coming years.”
