Thurston Community College, near Bury St Edmunds, Student Leadership Hub set for makeover thanks to Persimmon Homes donation
A school’s student leadership hub is set for a makeover thanks to a building firm’s donation.
The hub at Thurston Community College, near Bury St Edmunds, is used by its elected student leaders, who ensure their fellow pupils have a voice, including a Student News Team.
Students wanted a more inspiring and creative workspace, and Persimmon Homes secured enough paint, rollers, brushes and trays through contractor DA Rudd to enable the leaders to get a perfect finish.
The team are now preparing the room ready for its makeover.
Leadership team member Callum said: “I think the school has brightened up since the team was launched because more people have a chance to have their say. Now we want to brighten up our hub too.”
James Morris, the Student Development lead at Thurston, thanked DA Rudd and Persimmon for their donation, and said how the fresh feel of the hub will tie in with the Student Leadrship Team’s ambitions for positive change.
The elected body work work students and teachers to campaign for change, and to ensure that everyone’s views are taken on board.
Dale Rudd of DA Rudd said it was a pleasure to support the students at Thurston whilst Ian Hamilton, managing director at Persimmon, said: “We are glad we were able to facilitate in sourcing paint and support the school.
“At Persimmon we are keen to support the communities within which we are building.”
