Service at St Edmundsbury Cathedral to mark Eve of Peace
Military and civilian communities gathered at St Edmundsbury Cathedral to mark the Eve of Peace.
Servicemen and women from Wattisham Flying Station, RAF Honington, USAF Lakenheath and Mildenhall joined veterans, youth groups and multi-faith organisations for the service on Wednesday.
It included a mass drop of poppies and the lighting of candles in a circle of light.
The exhortation was read by Daniel Saunders, aged nine, the great-great-grandson of Sgt Arthur Saunders VC, a Suffolk Regiment soldier awarded the Victoria Cross at the Battle of Loos in 1915.
The Eve of Peace references the arrival of German officers at Compiegne on November 7, 1918 to begin negotiating Armistice.
