Shoppers in Bury St Edmunds left disappointed after supermarket shelves bare over coronavirus fears

Shoppers have struggled to get certain products in supermarkets across Bury St Edmunds due to lack of stock on shelves caused by stockpilers worried about the threat of the coronavirus.

The pasta shelf in the Tesco Superstore near Bury St Edmunds station was virtually empty on Saturday afternoon with a sign that read: "Low supply due to high demand.

"Please be aware that other customers may also want this product.

"Please don't bulk buy!!"

On Tesco's website, a number of different types of pasta, toilet paper, UHT milks, handwashes and tinned vegetables are not available for purchase.

In Waitrose, Bury St Edmunds, this morning, the toilet paper shelves were left completely bare.

It comes after shoppers across the country, and worldwide, have been bulk buying over fears the spread of the coronavirus may lead some to 'self-isolate'.

The most recent number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the East of England is currently 23.
