Bury's Best By Bike rides return this summer in Bury St Edmunds
Cycle tours offering people the chance to see a town’s historic sights without walking are returning this summer.
Bury’s Best By Bike rides, run by EcoCarriersBSE in partnership with Bury St Edmunds Tour Guides, is set to return from Monday, July 28, offering 25-minute pedal-powered tours of the Abbey Gardens, St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Theatre Royal and other landmarks in the town.
Supported by Our Bury St Edmunds BID under the ‘Bury St Edmunds and Beyond’ tourism brand, the tours will run daily from 12pm to 12.30pm until Sunday, September 7.
The initiative follows the success of last year’s summer trial when 50 tours were fully booked by visitors from as far as South Africa, Portugal, USA and Holland.
Libby Ranzetta, director of EcoCarriersBSE, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working again with Bury St Edmunds Tour Guides and Bury St Edmunds and Beyond to be able to offer these sightseeing rides again this summer for visitors and residents alike.
“These rides enable people who cannot take part in a walking tour of Bury or who would like to do something a bit different to see the main sights of Bury’s historic quarter.”
Each ride takes up to two passengers in a PedalCab, with optional audio commentary recorded by Bury’s official tour guides, who also lead the town’s daily walking tours and ghost walks.
The project is again backed by Our Bury St Edmunds BID which has funded 100 hours of PedalCab tours this year and committed to further support next year.
PedalCab Plus also provides a free service for people facing mobility challenges — helping them reach the town centre for shopping and appointments.
Booking for the sightseeing rides is essential and can be made via www.ecocarriersbse.co.uk/burys-best-by-bike.
Tours are free with a suggested donation of £10 per ride.
