Sign reappears for long-lost pub The Rising Sun in Bury St Edmunds

Bury St Edmunds has been given a blast from the past after a sign reappeared for a long-lost pub.

The sign for former Greene King pub The Rising Sun has been spotted outside the former Casa restaurant in Risbygate Street.

The Rising Sun was a mainstay of the Bury pub scene and famous for its live music nights.

The once 15th century coaching inn was said to have been an overnight stay for Oliver Cromwell, according to local legend.

It was renamed The St Edmunds Tavern in 2010 before it shut.

It later became home to eatery Casa which closed in February last year.

Earlier this year, the building was on the market for more than £800,000.

Greene King has confirmed it has no involvement with the premises.

Last year, Irene Brennan, whose parents and grandparents ran The Rising Sun, shared her memories.

The Barnard family’s connection with the pub began in 1904 when Irene’s grandfather Charles took it on.
