Bury St Edmunds girls' VE Day 75-minute silence to raise money for WiSH Upon a Star

Two sisters from Moreton Hall have been quietly collecting funds for the WiSH Upon a Star Appeal.

When the 75th anniversary of VE day is marked on May 8, Chloe Middleton, 9, and Jessica Middleton, 6, will hold their own extended moment of silence, lasting a full 75 minutes.

The girls’ mother Sarah-Jane Middleton, said the girls had been asking to raise money for the NHS since lockdown started.

She added: “This could prove quite a challenge for the girls as they are both well known for their chatty and lively personalities however, they are determined to complete their mission to support their chosen charity.”

Sally Daniels, appeal manager, said: "What a great way to raise money during lockdown, I am sure more parents wish they had thought about suggesting their children do a sponsored silence! It’s lovely to have Chloe and Jessica not only raise money for our WiSH Upon A Star children’s appeal but also mark VE day in such a poignant way."

The girls have raised £130 so far and further donations can be made here: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/middletongirls75minutessilence.
